Sunday, September 7 at 8:00 PM Aida by Giuseppe Verdi - Capridrama Opera Festival

On Sunday, September 7 at 8:00 PM, the first Capridrama Opera Festival ends with Verdi’s Aida, performed in the beautiful setting of Villa San Michele. The event, created by Renato Ocone and artistic director Filippo Rotondo, is organized by the Filrō Musical Association and returns for the third year to Axel Munthe’s former home.

The festival, with its rich program of events, aims to highlight symbolic places on the island of Capri through the great tradition of opera, reinterpreted in a contemporary and immersive way. At the heart of this first edition is a unifying theme: to tell the soul of the places hosting the performances, making them an integral part of the artistic narrative.

The iconic sphinx of Villa San Michele was the inspiration for staging Aida, an opera that transports us to distant lands, open to the influences of the world: its dramatic and musical power, as well as the evocative atmosphere it creates, are in perfect harmony with the mysterious spirit of the Villa.

“When one thinks of Aida, the collective imagination is immediately set ablaze with spectacular images: colossal columns, monumental choruses, dazzling dances, exotic animals parading on stage,” explain Filippo Rotondo and Renato Ocone. “At Villa San Michele we will bring to life a different Aida: essential, suspended. There will be no opulence, no massive choruses or triumphant pyramids. Instead, there will be lights, geometries, and silences that sculpt the space like invisible stage sets. Shadows and stone, the breath of nature surrounding the Villa, will build the scene. The sea opening below us will become a symbol of freedom, the horizon the ultimate boundary toward which the protagonists’ desires stretch. The audience will be invited to an intimate, close-up experience, where the power of Verdi’s music can act without spectacular filters, revealing its true essence: the human cry against slavery, the pain of impossible love, the search for freedom that is fulfilled only in death.”

The cast of this production includes: Filippo Rotondo, who, in addition to directing, designing sets and costumes, will perform the role of Amonasro; pianist Federico Cappa, who will conduct the musical performance; Ginevra Martalò in the title role; Hayk Vardanyan as Radames; Beatrice Amato Pizzi as Amneris; Margherita Sarno as the handmaiden; and Maria Emilia Gòmez as actress and assistant director.

To attend the event, reservations are recommended.

Tickets (adults €20.00; reduced for youth and students €10.00) can be purchased at the box office half an hour before the performance or in advance daily from 9 AM to 6 PM.

For those traveling from Naples, return is possible with the last ferry.
