Andrea Bocelli visits Villa San Michele

Andrea Bocelli, who had his international breakthrough in 1996 with Time to Say Goodbye, managed to escape the paparazzi of Capri and arrived at Villa San Michele in the evening with a small group of family and friends. They got a private tour around the house museum by the director, Kristina Kappelin.

Andrea Bocelli wanted to know as much as possible about the villa and Axel Munthe and was eager to hear the recording of an old interview with the BBC, in which Munthe talks about his love of birds. Bocelli was also amazed by the Egyptian sphinx, the symbol of Villa San Michele.

Axel Munthe was a talented amateur musician and singer. In homage to him, Bocelli sat down at the piano in the old chapel and played and sang Franz Schubert’s Ave Maria.

The visit lasted almost two hours. “To dear Axel” Andrea Bocelli wrote in the guestbook before leaving.
