After several years, the ancient chapel of Villa San Michele will resonate with music once again. On Friday, July 12 at 8 p.m., the third event in the "A Summer to Dream" concert series will take place in our marvelous medieval church. The evening features violist Liam Byrne and theorboist Jonas Nordberg, masters of the rare instruments viola da gamba and theorbo.
The repertoire for this concert is inspired by Marc-Antoine Charpentier's 1692 "Règles de Composition," where he describes the emotional character of each musical key. C minor is "somber and sad," D major is "cheerful and very combative," and G minor is "serious and magnificent." These tonalities shape the Swedish duo’s performance, presenting compositions by Marin Marais, Robert de Visée, Mr. de Sainte-Colombe, and arrangements of pieces by François Couperin, Michel Lambert and Jean-Philippe Rameau.
Gramophone magazine praises Nordberg's lute playing, likening him to the great master Paul O'Dette. Meanwhile, the New York Times hails Liam Byrne as one of the leading violists of his generation, known for his exploration of the viola da gamba's forgotten repertoire and innovative collaborations with pop and techno musicians.

Kristina Kappelin, director of Villa San Michele, expresses her delight at the concert series' growing popularity: "Our concerts are attracting an ever-increasing audience. Over 150 people attended the first two events, which was wonderful. This Friday's concert is a unique opportunity to hear top-notch musicians play rare instruments. The decision to reopen the chapel, an intimate space with exceptional acoustics, is perfect."

The concert series will continue every Friday until August 9, under the musical guidance of Bo Löfvendahl concerning the first five concerts, with support from Progetto Piano and the patronage of the Embassy of Sweden. Don't miss this exceptional musical experience at Villa San Michele.

Due to high demand, reservations are essential. Tickets (concert price €20.00; reduced price for children and students €10.00) can be purchased at the box office half an hour before the event or in advance daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
