Unique Photo Exhibit with Pictures of Axel Munthe and the Swedish Queen Victoria in Naples
An exhibit with as yet unpublished photographs of Axel Munthe (1857-1949), the Swedish Queen Victoria and some of their friends of the European elite of their lifetime, opens at the Archeological Museum of Naples (MANN) on Januari 19.Munthe's granddaughter Katriona Munthe has taken the initiative to restore 140 photos, which so far have been available exclusively for the family. The exhibit is called Honesta Voluptas - il giardino di Axel Munthe (Pure Pleasure - the garden of Axel Munthe) and gives new insights into the life of Munthe, who, during his lifetime was a famous physician (Queen Victoria was his royal patient) and an author of great international success with The Story of San Michele (1929).
The exhibit is curated by Katriona Munthe och the Neapolitan artist Michele Iodice, while the photos have been restored by Jordi Mestre. Until March 19 it is visitable in the Sala della farnesina of the museum. After that, it will most likely continue at Villa San Michele, yet another example of the fine collaboration between Villa San Michele and Katriona Munthe and MANN and its director Paolo Giulierini.
