Unique exhibit by Sandro Chia at Villa San Michele

Villa San Michele, in collaboration with the Association Il Rosaio – Contemporary Art and Culture, presents the exhibition Residents of Another Place: Sandro Chia Meets Axel Munthe on Thursday, October 31, at 6:00 PM. This project, curated by Arianna Rosica and Gianluca Riccio, pays tribute to the 75th anniversary of the death of Swedish doctor and writer Axel Munthe. It features new works created specifically for this occasion by the renowned Italian artist Sandro Chia, a leading figure in the Transavanguardia movement, created specifically for this occasion.
Chia’s new series of paintings creates a unique exhibition that connects historical images of Munthe in Anacapri with his new artworks. The figures in these paintings represent inhabitants of a world caught between the past and present, illustrating a shared, imaginative space. This blend is characterized by the vibrant colors of Chia's tempera paintings contrasted with the black-and-white historical photos that they rest upon. The exhibit ends on March 30 2025.
