A Thrilling Mix of Music in Concert Season of 2024
Following the success of the Swedish Film Goes Capri film festival, Villa San Michele's concert series kicks off with a Cabaret, an unusual and exciting choice."This will be an exciting way to continue the cultural season, which apart from the concerts also includes art, theatre and the cultural festival Sfinxens Salong, this year on the theme of Sustainability," says Villa San Michele's curator Kristina Kappelin.
Lindy Larsson och Bon Bon Band consists of Lindy Larsson, vocals, Sara Edin, violin, vocals, saw, Mats Lekander, double bass, Pia Lundstedt, guitar, Miriam Oldenburg, accordion and Michael Vinsa, drums. They offer high-voltage cabaret music without a safety net - intoxicating love, ecstatic joy and bloody pain. The repertoire includes everything from Astor Piazzolla, flamenco, disco music, their own music and extracts from Walt Disney film music.
The concert series continues every Friday until 9 August and is organised with the help of Bo Löfvendahl and the patronage of the Swedish Embassy in Stockholm. The piano has just arrived by ferry from Naples, thanks to VSM's historic Italian partner Progetto Piano.
The concert programme is as follows:
5 July: Jazz concert "Secrets On The Way To The Hilltop" with singer Amanda Ginsburg and pianist Elise Einarsdotter.
12 July: Swedish sounds in Villan's medieval chapel with Jonas Nordberg on theorbo and Liam Byrne on viola da gamba.
19 July: Theo Hillborg, saxophone, and Julia Isaksson, piano, offer a well-filled and varied programme from the big theatre stage.
26 July: Soprano Johanna Wallroth and mezzo-soprano Rebecka Wallroth, together with pianist Magnus Svensson, give a concert with music by Vincenzo Bellini, W A Mozart, Gioacchino Rossini and Giacomo Puccini.
2 August: Piano concert with Leonora Armellini playing Fryderyk Chopin and Sergey Prokofiev.
9 August: Pianist Vittorio Bresciani performs a concert entirely dedicated to Claude Debussy.
22-24 August: The Sphinx Salon cultural festival, where invited guests discuss Sustainability from different perspectives. Expert talks, music and other artistic performances take place over three warm August evenings.
7 September: The international art festival Il Festival del Paesaggio transforms the Villa into a contemporary art gallery, with site-specific works by Jim Lambie and tapestries by Marta Roberti, among others. The exhibition is curated by Arianna Rosica and Gianluca Riccio and this year is entitled "L'animale che dunque sono". The festival runs until 20 October.
8 September: The Filrò organisation takes over the Villa for an evening with a museum-quality production of Giacomo Puccini's opera Tosca.
19 September: The Italian Etabeta Lab per CapriArt* presents the play La ragione lasciamola agli altri (Let others judge what is right), written by Anita Pesce and inspired by texts by Swedish author and playwright Anne Charlotte Leffler. Starring Anna Ammirati and piano accompaniment by Sara Amoresano. Etabeta Lab promotes art from a gender perspective since 2021.
Those wishing to attend the concerts (all starting at 8pm) can pre-book tickets by writing to events@sanmichele.org or calling +39 081 837 14 01. All other events are free, subject to availability, except for the Art Festival, which requires a museum ticket.
The museum is open every day from 9am to 6pm. It is possible to return to Naples on the last ferry after the concerts have finished.
