The Board of the San Michele Foundation has unanimously appointed Kristina Kappelin new Managing Director and CEO of the Villa San Michele, Capri.
Kristina Kappelin is a journalist and writer and one of Sweden’s foremost experts on Italy. A foreign correspondent for Swedish media in Italy for many years, she is best known for her work in Rome and the Vatican for Swedish National Television. Kappelin has authored several books on Italy, among them Berlusconi italienaren (Berlusconi the Italian, 2010), Italiensk dagbok (Italian Diary, 2014), and Påven som kom ner på jorden (The Pope who came down to earth, 2016).
Kristina Kappelin has a thorough knowledge of both Italian and Swedish culture and society, which is fundamental to the task of managing and further developing the undertakings and activities of the Villa. She is a highly creative person, full of ideas and with a brilliant talent for communicating knowledge, says Carin Fischer, Chairwoman of the Board.
I am very honoured and delighted to be entrusted with the responsibility that comes with managing the Villa San Michele. It will be my goal to continue and expand, in collaboration with the staff, the Villa’s wide-ranging activities and to make this exceptionally beautiful place better known to the wider public, both in Sweden and abroad, says Kristina Kappelin.
Kristina Kappelin will take up her new position in January 2018, succeeding the Italian-Swedish diplomat Staffan de Mistura who is currently serving as UN Special Envoy in Syria. In De Mistura’s absence, the archaeologist and writer Allan Klynne has served as interim director of the Villa since 1 June 2017.
